Specialty Pharmacy Services
Pulmonology Specialty Pharmacy
Accord Specialty Pharmacy supports patients with complex pulmonary conditions including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary arterial hypertension, severe asthma, and cystic fibrosis. We assist with prior authorizations, REMS programs, and limited-distribution drug access so patients can focus on breathing.
Conditions We Serve
Pulmonary Conditions
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)
A progressive, irreversible lung disease in which scar tissue gradually replaces healthy lung tissue. Two antifibrotic medications, nintedanib (Ofev) and pirfenidone (Esbriet), are approved for IPF and require specialty pharmacy dispensing, including REMS compliance for some formulations.
Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)
A rare, progressive condition characterized by elevated blood pressure in the arteries supplying the lungs. PAH therapies include endothelin receptor antagonists, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, and prostacyclin analogs, many of which are available only through restricted distribution networks.
Severe Asthma
For patients whose asthma is not controlled by standard inhaled therapies, biologic agents targeting eosinophilic pathways or IgE offer additional disease control. These medications, including Dupixent (dupilumab) and Fasenra (benralizumab), are dispensed through specialty pharmacies.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
An inherited disease affecting the lungs and digestive system due to mutations in the CFTR gene. CFTR modulator therapies such as Trikafta (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor) have transformed outcomes for eligible patients and are available through specialty pharmacies.
Specialty Support for Pulmonology Patients
Limited Distribution Access
Many pulmonary medications, including PAH therapies and Trikafta, are available only through restricted or limited distribution networks. Accord is enrolled in the required programs to dispense these therapies directly to patients.
Prior Authorization Support
Pulmonary specialty medications require thorough prior authorization documentation. Our team assists with PA submission, communicates with payers, and pursues appeals when coverage is initially denied.
Financial Assistance Navigation
Pulmonary medications can carry among the highest costs in specialty pharmacy. We enroll patients in manufacturer copay programs and patient assistance programs, and connect patients with foundation resources when additional support is needed.
Temperature-Controlled Delivery
Several PAH medications, including injectable prostacyclin analogs, require continuous refrigeration or careful cold-chain handling. Accord ships all temperature-sensitive pulmonary medications in validated packaging to ensure drug integrity on arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Accord carry Ofev (nintedanib) and Esbriet (pirfenidone) for IPF?
Yes. Accord Specialty Pharmacy dispenses both nintedanib (Ofev) and pirfenidone (Esbriet) for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Our team assists with prior authorization, enrollment in manufacturer support programs, and coordinates delivery on a schedule that matches the patient's refill cycle.
Can Accord dispense restricted PAH medications?
Yes. Accord is enrolled in the required distribution networks for pulmonary arterial hypertension medications, including macitentan (Opsumit), endothelin receptor antagonists, and other therapies with limited distribution requirements. Contact us to confirm availability for a specific medication.
Does Accord carry Trikafta for cystic fibrosis?
Yes. Accord dispenses Trikafta (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor) for eligible cystic fibrosis patients. We assist with prior authorization, enrollment in the Vertex patient support program, and manage ongoing refills to prevent gaps in therapy.
How does Accord support prior authorizations for pulmonary specialty medications?
Prior authorization for pulmonary medications often requires detailed clinical documentation including pulmonary function tests and imaging results. Our team works with the prescriber's office to gather all required documentation, submit the PA, and follow through on any payer requests or appeals.
How do I refer a pulmonology patient to Accord?
Download the Pulmonology referral form from our Referral Forms page, complete all sections including the prescription and relevant clinical documentation, and fax to 386-385-7871. Our team confirms receipt within one business day and contacts the patient to begin enrollment.
Does Accord ship pulmonology medications to patients nationwide?
Yes. Accord ships specialty pulmonary medications to patients in states where Accord holds an active pharmacy license. Temperature-sensitive medications, including certain PAH therapies, are shipped in validated cold-chain packaging to maintain drug stability throughout transit.
